Auditions - Last of the Summer Wine

"Last of the Summer Wine" is written exclusively for the stage by Roy Clarke: the man who brought these beloved characters to our small screens.

This is a never seen on TV "episode" from the lives of Compo, Clegg and Foggy - a last adventure to add to their collection! The writing holds the essence of the original characters and provides ample opportunity to bring them to life.

We are looking to fill the following roles with those who can capture the energy of the characters without age as a barrier - if you want to have a go, please come along!

Clegg - expecting a quiet and respectable retirement despite being married to the sharp tongued Edith for 31 years and is always reluctantly drawn into Foggy and Compo's shemes - somewhat pessimistic with a wry sense of humour.

Foggy - a former soldier who likes to boast of his exploits in Burma during WWII while he was, in fact, a sign writer. He considers himself regimental and heroic while coming across as a generally meek and incompetent gentleman.

Compo - a nickname derived from being on unemployment compensation, he's been "on the compo" long enough for it to stick. A loveable, working class scruff who is often exploited by others to do their dirty work.

Nora Batty - the archetypal broom wielding battleaxe, she's humourless and against displaying her feelings. She keeps her husband firmly under her thumb and Compo under control - almost!

Constance - Nora's niece who works as a librarian and is the long-standing fiancee of Gifford

Gifford Bewmont - a special constable who has pledged to apprehend the Flasher, has organised all-night patrols in the village. He has been engaged to Constance for 14 years yet he has never bought her a ring

Flash - a yet to be apprehended man of mystery who streaks at the full moon

Anything Is Possible If You Think About It Hard Enough

Synopsis

Alex and Rupert aren't a conventional match, but a caffeinated meeting on the Underground ignites a spark. Skip forward to them fighting over baby names, nursery colours and ways to save money. All the signs of a normal family in waiting.

Then Alex goes into labour, their baby is born still – and their world implodes. What follows is a window into how a couple find the strength to move forward, the will to stay together, and the determination to keep alive the memory of their child.

Anything is Possible if You Think About It Hard Enough takes us to the depths of grief to find hope, and to the edge of insanity to find reason. There is humour, too, in the most unexpected places.

Cordelia O'Neill's play was first presented by Small Things Theatre at Southwark Playhouse, London, in September 2021, and won the Best New Play award at the 2022 Offies

Roles Available

Rupert (M) - Playing age 20-40

Alex (F) - Playing age 20-40

Audition Text

Scene 9 - Alex and Rupert

Scene 10 - Alex

Important Information

  • The creative team are hoping to have 2 casts to perform 3 shows each. 1 cast of playing age 20-30 and 1 cast of 30-40. This will depend on the turnout at the auditions.

  • Due to the way in which the script is written there will be a necessity for cast members to be off book before rehearsals commence. There are 9 weeks from the audition to the first rehearsal in which to accomplish this and you will be issued with a full script as soon as the show has been cast.

  • We would encourage all prospective cast members to do some research into this play as it does contain some sensitive and emotive subject matter.

If you have any further questions in regards to this show please do contact the director Jamie Harris at jamieharris807@googlemail.com or call the theatre on 01507 600350 and they will get a message to him.

Oliver! Children's Auditions

Show dates Wednesday 15th - Sunday 26th May 2024

Produced by Jamie Harris
Directed by Sophie Grundy-Holmes & Phillip Marshall Jnr
Musical Director - Nicola Drewery
Choreography - Nicky Wright
Assistant Director - Vicki Wright

Louth Playgoers are proud and excited to be producing Lionel Bart's classic, family favourite "Oliver!" as it's season end musical production in May 2024. And we need a large chorus of children to join us to play the orphans, Fagin's gang and of course the pivotal roles of both the Artful Dodger and Oliver himself!

Rehearsals will take place on Tuesday & Thursday (with some Wednesday) evenings from the week commencing 29/01/2024. The children will not be needed at all rehearsals initially (although Dodger & Oliver will be needed at more than the chorus children) and a detailed rehearsal schedule will be provided in January before rehearsals commence.

Every member of the children's chorus will be in all 12 performances for the opening workhouse scene. We will then have one team stay on as Fagin's gang each show, meaning each member of the children's chorus will have 6 of the 12 performances where they will be required for the whole show.

The roles available, the age ranges for them and all audition materials can be found below. Please note Oliver/Dodger is playing age not actual age and we will be looking for 2 performers to play both roles on alternate nights:-

Oliver
Male performer (unbroken voice)
Playing age 8-11
Audition script (link)
Audition song (link)

The Artful Dodger
Male/Female performer (unbroken voice)
Playing age 11-16
Audition script (link)
Audition song (link)

Orphans/Fagin's gang
Male/Female performers
Age 7-16
Audition song (link)

A few further things to note:-

  • There is a £10.00 per child show fee for this production which is payable by the first rehearsal in January 2024.

  • Parents will not be allowed into the audition room. We ask that you wait in the theatre foyer until your child has finished their audition.

  • If your child is wanting to audition for the chorus but is not available on Sunday 19th November 2023 then there is the possibility they could audition in January with the adults. This is providing we don't fill all available slots at the Sunday 19th November auditions. Please contact the producer Jamie Harris if this is the case.

  • Any child wishing to audition for the roles of Oliver or Dodger must attend on Sunday 19th November 2023.

  • If your child is successful in gaining the role of Oliver but their voice then breaks during the rehearsal period, we regrettably have to inform you that they would then forfeit the role.

For any further questions or queries please contact the producer Jamie Harris at jamieharris807@googlemail.com

A mysterious invitation arrives and ten strangers are summoned to a luxurious mansion on a remote island off the coast of Devon. Upon arrival, the guests soon realise not everything is as it seems and, as a storm crashes over the island, a more sinister plot begins to develop making the reason that they have all been gathered terrifyingly clear.

This play is based on the novel “And Then There Were None” by Agatha Christie, renowned for her ability to weave together suspense and drama with an unhealthy dose of murder. This adaptation, produced by Louth Playgoers, aims to recreate this dramatic story using modern stylised approaches whilst staying true to the original setting and plot.
